Hi. I'm Leo Brodie. As a music producer, I help songwriters and singers bring their projects to life with top-notch professional recordings. I will work with you to give the song what it needs, from co-writing, arranging, hiring musicians, tracking, to mixing in my state-of-the-art project studio.
I treat every song as a unique work of art. I focus on uncovering the story within a song and making sure that story is told powerfully. I'm most experienced with melodic forms including rock, pop, jazz rock, swing, blues, country, gospel, etc. At the same time, I love to incorporate fresh sonic elements wherever a song calls for it.
As producer, I work in a variety of locations and studios, but I track vocals, guitars and virtual intruments, as well as mix, in my personal project studio.
Three microphones serve most of the needs for my personal studio:
The RØDE NT1 large-diaphragm condenser microphone is described as a " modern, vintage-sounding mic; with all the incredible technical specifications – such as low self-noise and high sensitivity – that you would expect from a modern mic" and has been compared to the much spendier Neumann U 89. The NT1 is shown here with the SE Electronics Reflexion Filter PRO to eliminate acoustic reflections) is also used for vocals, acoustic guitars, and other instruments where detail and warm bass reproduction are important.
The Shure Beta58A microphone is a supercardioid dynamic vocal microphone with excellent rejection of off–axis sound. In the studio it used to isolate the vocal when the performer is playing an instrument at the same time, as well as for backing vocals.
This Yamaha CP4 88-note Wooden Key Stage Piano controls an extensive library of virtual instruments with an emphasis on exquisitely realistic acoustic and electric pianos and other keyboard instruments, along with bass, drums/percussion, and strings.
Cubase Synthesizers -- A rich palette of virtual instruments with thousands of sounds. Synths include Retrologue 2, Padshop, HALion Sonic SE 3, LoopMash 2, Prologue, Spector, and Mystic
Spectrasonics Trilian Total Bass Module -- Extremely detailed acoustic upright, electric, fretless and synth basses including Chapman Stick and Epiphone Viola Bass, Fender Precision and Music Man five-string studio bass, Martin acoustic bass guitar and multiple bass synths including Moog, Prophet, ARP and PPG
On the production side, the digital audio workstation is powered by the lastest version of Cubase (9.5), with a six-channel input (four microphone pre-amps) Steinberg UR44 front end monitored through Yamaha HS8 active nearfield reference speakers.
Acoustic Treatment for Recording and Tracking
The room itself is acoustically treated with Auralex 2'x2'x2" Studiofoam panels on all walls to cut reflections of high frequencies, plus two Primacoustic Nimbus 2' x 4'ceiling cloud panels to reduce lower-frequency reflections and and standing waves.
